The data ?les of two di?erent time periods were used: April 2004 and 2006.ThesimulationmethodusedthestructureoftheexistingFrenchMAS:samepedigree, samemarkergenotypesandsameanimalswithrecords.Theprogramsimulatedbreedingvalues and new records based on this existing structure and knowledge on the QTL used in MAS (varianceandfrequency).Reliabilitiesofgeneticvaluesofyounganimals(lessthanoneyear old)obtainedwithandwithoutmarkerinformationwerecomparedtoassessthee?ciencyof MASforevaluationofmilk,fatandproteinyieldsandfatandproteincontents.Meangainsof reliabilityrangedfrom0.015to0.094andfrom0.038to0.114in2004and2006,respectively. Thelargernumberofanimalsgenotypedandtheuseofanewsetofgeneticmarkerscanexplain theimprovementofMASreliabilityfrom2004to2006.Thisimprovementwasalsoobserved by analysis of information content for young candidates. The gain of MAS reliability with respect to classical selection was larger for sons of sires withgenotyped progeny daughters withrecords.Finally,itwasshownthatwhensuperiorityofMASoverclassicalselectionwas estimatedwithdaughter yielddeviationsobtainedafterprogenytestinsteadoftruebreeding values,thegainwasunderestimated. marker-assistedselection/simulation/e?ciency/dairycattle ?
