Methods:Theprojectwasacross-sectionalcomparisonofFCfromruralandurbanpopulationsinChina.The relationshipbetweenlength-for-ageZ-score(LAZ)andFCconcentrationswerealsocompared.Singlefecalsamples wereassayedforFCusingEK-CALELISAkits. Results:Theageofsubjectsforbothlocationswas6.1±0.2mo;allwereapparentlyhealthy.Themean±SDofthe LAZfortheruralandurbaninfantswere?0.6±0.9and0.4±0.9,respectively.FChadanon-normaldistribution.The medianFCof420.9and140.1μg/gforruralandurbaninfants,respectively,weresignificantlydifferent(P 0.0001). Fortheruralgroup,linearregressionanalysisshowedthatanincreaseinFCof100μg/gwasassociatedwitha decreaseof0.06inLAZ. Conclusion:FClevelsweresignificantlyelevatedintheruralinfantsandhighconcentrationsaccountedfor approximatelyone-thirdofthelowLAZscoresoftheseinfants.
