Methods:Thestudywasconductedinaspecializedfatteningherdemployingagesegregatedrearingineight units.TheherdsufferedfrominfectionscausedbyActinobacilluspleuropneumoniaeserotype2,confirmedby necropsyandserology.Thestudyincluded54batchesofpigsgroupedintofiveperiods.Batchesofpigsofthe secondperiodwerevaccinatedagainstactinobacillosistwice,andpigsinthefourthperiodwerevaccinatedthree times.Batchesofpigsofthefirst,thirdandfifthperiodwerenotvaccinated.Concentrationsofserumantibodies toA.pleuropneumoniaeandserumamyloidA(SAA)wereanalysedandproductiondatawererecorded. Results:Despitevaccinating,medicaltreatmentswererequiredtoreducetheimpactofthedisease.Themean incidenceofindividualtreatmentsforrespiratorydiseasesduringtherearingperiodrangedfrom0to4.7±1.8%, andwasgreatestduringthetriplevaccinationperiod(periodIV;p0.05whencomparedtoothergroups).Alarge proportionofthevaccinatedpigsseroconvertedtoA.pleuropneumoniaeserotype2intheabsenceofaSAA-response. Theprevalenceofpleuritisdecreasedfrom25.4±6.5%inthefirstperiodto5.0±3.7%inthefifthperiod(p0.001). Conclusions:ThevaccinedidnoteffectivelypreventclinicalexpressionofA.pleuropneumoniaeinfections,but seroconversiontoA.pleuropneumoniaeintheabsenceofaSAA-responseinalargen
