A complicated system of gearbox can be divided into system level , subsystem level and unit level bas ed on hierarchy principle of system structure . T0 each level , the most appropr iate diagnosis method is adopted to locate the part and decide on the cause of t he breakdown until the level condition is determined. The result shows that the diagnosis and the technique can be used effectively for complex system of the ge arbox of walking tractor. By using the gradation diagnosis model, fault diagnos is can be directed to a certain part in a unit , which results in high efficienci es of diagnosis and calculation works. Through the adaptation of fuzzy discemin g technique, the model can differentiate correct diagnosis 仕om wrong ones and i mprove its accuracy.
