33 4 ( ) Vol.33 No.4 2005 4 JOURNAL OF TONGJI UNIVERSITY(NATURAL SCIENCE) 　Apr.2005 徐祖信1, 2 (1., 　200092; 2., 　200003) :, ———. , :、; , ; , ;, Ⅴ ., . :;; :X 522　　　　　　:A 　　　　　　　　:0253-374X(2005)04-0482-07 Comprehensive Water Quality Identification Index for Environmental Quality Assessment of Surface Water 1,2 X U Z u -x in (1.State ey Laboratory of Pollution Control and Resource Reuse, Tongji University, Shanghai 200092, China; 2.Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau, Shanghai 200003, China) Abstract:Based on the singlefactor water quality identification index, the comprehensive water quality identification index,which is a new tool for general water quality assessment of surface water,is pre- sented.The comprehensive water quality identification index can fully depict the general water quality of surfacewater, andits characteristicsarelisted as follows.Firstly,it can evaluate general water quality both qualitatively and quantitatively;secondly, it assesses general water quality by a group of typical assessing items instead of deciding by the worst assessing item, so the assessment of general water qual- ity is reasonable;thirdly,it can be used to compare general water quality of different stations of the same river and different rivers, and it can also be used to compare general water quality with the same classification of classes Ⅰ～ Ⅴand the class worse than class Ⅴ.Nowadays the comprehensive water quality identification index has been applied in evaluating the general water quality of Shanghai s rivers, and very convinc
