School of Forestry and Landscape Architecture, Anhui Agricultural University, Hefei 230036) Abstract: Castanopsis eyrei forest is one of the main forest types in Zhawan Nature Reserve. The investiga- tion result showed that the Castanopsis eyrei community has a remarkable mono-dominant character. The com- munity is mainly composed of Castanopsis eyrei-Rhododendron ovatum plus Meliosma veitchiorum-Woodwardia japonica. The complicated vertical structure could be divided into tree layer, shrub layer and herb layer, as well as a definite number of inter-stratum plants. The species diversity index of the tree layer is low, and the general trend is shrub layer tree layer herb layer.
