Date: Qing Ming’s observance was reinstated as a public holiday in mainland China in 2008. Holiday: Origin Hanshi Day Jie Zitui Duke Wen Tang Emperor Xuanzong Its name denotes a time for people to go outside and enjoy the greenery of springtime and tend to the graves of departed ones. The Qingming Festival is an opportunity for celebrants to remember and honour their ancestors at grave sites. Young and old pray before the ancestors, sweep the tombs and offer food, tea, wine, chopsticks, joss paper accessories, and libation to the ancestors.
