Including lighting a fire. Writing. Using money. Many Jews go to visit their synagogue on this day. Jewish Weddings Jewish Weddings are similar with Christian weddings in the West. One Jewish tradition is that the bride and groom smash a glass. The ceremony takes place under a covering cloth. Shiva When a person dies, their family members will spend 7 days following the custom of Shiva. During this time the family members do not leave the house or go to work. It is polite for friends to visit the house, but it a custom for them not to speak to a family member unless they are spoken to first. The conversations are usually about the dead persons life They dont cook either, and so friends often bring hot food with them. The family shouldnt listen to music or watch television. The family members tear part of their clothing to show their sadness. Bar Mitzvah Bar Mitzvah is an important ceremony that takes place when a boy is thirteen. This marks the point when a child becomes responsible for their actions. The boy is expected to read from the Torah at the synagogue. This can involve quite a lot of studying and memoriza
