I look to China with hope that it may lead the world toward ecological civilization. But I greatly fear that China may make a fateful decision about agriculture and rural development that will preclude any possibility of itself becoming an ecological civilization. I desperately hope that China’s commitment to becoming an ecological civilization will override its commitment to rapid modernization.
