Dep artment of Gerontology , Southwest Hosp ital , Third Military Medi al University , Chongqing 400038, hina Abstract: Objective To evaluate the roles of bone metabolic biochemical markers for clinical application in patients with osteoporosis. Methods This article reviewed the advancement of bone metabolic biochemical markers, which responded bone formation and bone resorption. Results The bone metabolic markers were high- sensitive and strong-specific to detect, and it could be more significant than bone density that reflects bone transforming levels in early stage. Conclusion The bone metabolic biochemical makers may be useful as predictive tools for assessment of fracture risk and clinical benefits of medicine administration in patients with osteoporosis. On the other hand, it wouldbe helpful to discover the patients withhigh risk fracture in early stage in combination with measurement of bone density.
