Method
Without enough vocabulary, you cant communicate effectively in English without listening, speaking, reading and writing effectively. It is very important to strengthen vocabulary teaching in junior high school. This paper tries to explore the vocabulary teaching methods from the combination of the three forms of pronunciation, shape and meaning, the two-way teaching of words and sentences, and metaphorical cognition, so as to improve the students ability to learn and use vocabulary.
Vocabulary is one of the three elements of language. Human thinking activities are carried out by means of words, and human communication is also achieved through the formation of sentences by words. Without words, any language is inconceivable. (Hang Baotong, 1993) it is obvious that vocabulary occupies a very important place in language teaching. According to the English curriculum standards, junior high school graduates should learn to use 1500~1600 words and 200~300 idioms or regular collocation. However, in teaching, we find that a considerable number of students do not reach the required vocabulary, so that their interest and enthusiasm in learning English are directly affected. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the teaching methods and adopt various forms and flexible methods to carry out vocabulary teaching.
The British linguist Higgins Weyl (1972) brilliantly pointed out: without grammar little can be conveyed, without vocabulary what can express. (quoted from Kehong Ping, 1999) study of listening teaching scholars believe that: the size of vocabulary determines the listening comprehension from one side to the extent. (quoted from Kehong Ping, 1999). Vocabulary does not meet the requirements, students in listening and speaking difficulties, poor listening and speaking ability, natural reading and writing are also affected.
