BMW timing: how to adjust the author: special tools for car repair
Twelve, 525i/528i (E28) (engine number: 25, 6E, A, 28, C, 6E) (1981-1987); 530i/535i (E34) (engine number: 30, 6K, A, 34, 6E, C, 34, 6K, B) (1981-1993)
(1) valve timing adjustment step;
1. the engine stops at the first cylinder 1.
2. camshaft sprocket hole aligned vertically (see Figure 2).
3. camshaft sprocket locating pin at position 3.
4. remove the tensioner plug 4.
Note: plug 4 is compressed by a strong spring.
5. remove camshaft sprockets. See figure 2-2-88.

(1) valve timing adjustment step;
1. the engine stops at the top of the first cylinder.
2. insert flywheel timing pin 1. Tool number 112300.
To ensure that the first 3. cylinder camshaft lobe 2.
4. make sure the camshaft sprocket arrow 3 is up.
5. install camshaft alignment tool 4. Tool number 112 441/442/443/444/445.
6. tighten the timing chain before tightening the camshaft sprocket bolts. Use tool 113390 (see Figure 5). See figure 2-2-89.

(1) valve timing adjustment step;
1. removing / installing timing chains required:
Remove the oil pan.
2. the engine stops at the top of the first cylinder.
3. insert flywheel timing pin 1.
To ensure that the first 4. cylinder camshaft lobe 2.
5. make sure the sensor mechanism is marked at the given position 3.
6. install camshaft alignment tool 4.
7. use the wrench 5 at the icon position to prevent the camshaft from turning.
8. secondary tensioner can lock with tool 6.
9. install the exhaust camshaft sprocket 7 with the chain in the following order:
Make sure the thread hole is at the center of the slot.
Loosen the secondary tensioner.
Install exhaust camshaft sprocket bolts 7 (do not tighten).
