Department of Geotechnical Engineering, Tongji University, Shanghai 200092, China) Abstract: In order to understand the reform law of the dredger fill under self-weight, a centrifuge model test was used to study the consolidation settlement of the dredger fill in Lingangxincheng area of Shanghai under its self-weight for 10 a. The relationship between settlement and time was fitted by Orgin. An empirical formulation, Hill model, was determined. The results show that the Hill model can be used to predict the consolidation settlement of dredger fill. The consolidation settlement under its self-weight includes two stages: quick consolidation and slow consolidation. The quick consolidation takes about 1 a while the slow consolidation requires even longer time. At the initial stage of the quick consolidation, soil settles fastly. 50% of the settlement is completed after half a year. 80% of the total settlement takes place during the quick consolidation.
