A proper lead-in is the inner bridge of communicating between students and teachers. Also, it can attract the attention of the students directly and stimulate the students’ interest in learning to effectively improve the efficiency of English teaching. In order to get better teaching effect, teachers should design the lead-ins carefully. It demands that a teacher use their language art and management art skillfully to create a pleasant situation and make their students enjoy English learning. The thesis mainly includes two parts: one is the analysis of types of lead-in; the other is the function of lead-in. In short, this thesis aims to help high school teacher to realize the function of lead-in in classroom instruction and try their best to improve their teaching skills.
