ABSTRACT: T he ex isting w idely used models of pow er
t ransmission line icing in freezing precipitation are conceptually
evaluated , and it is found that no ne of the model is both cor rect [ 1]
,
and complete in predicting desig n g laze ice loads . A simple
model that can predict ice accretion in freezing precipitation ,
based on the precipitatio n rate, w ind speed, and the medium : ,
v olume drop diameter is pro posed. T he ice loads predicted from ,
t his model ar e compar ed w ith those from ot her models, it show s

t hat the simple model is as good as or better than those
calculated by the detailed ice accretion computer models. , ;
