Today we tell about some expressions that use the word skin. Job is described in the Bible of the Christian religion as a man who suffered from almost every kind of tragic incident. Yet he was firm in his belief in God. Everything, everybody turned against him. Job said, I escaped?by the skin of my teeth. Many people have wondered about this expression. After all, no one has skin on their teeth. Skin covers animals from head to toe, but does not cover their teeth. Some experts think the expression means that Job felt he was very close to being totally destroyed. He knew he almost did not escape. That is the way the expression is used today. A woman who almost was hit by a car when crossing the street says, I just made it by the skin of my teeth. Or the woman might say, the car missed me by a hair. That expression means the same thing as by the skin of my teeth. It means an accident was very close to happening, and only a hair separated the person from a terrible event such as being hit by a car. There was no hair involved at the time, but the expression gives a picture of a frightening situation. Another expression is it’s no skin off my nose. It means that I do not care what you do. If something happens, it is of no interest to me. It costs me nothing, not even a little skin of my nose. Some people, however, want more than a little skin off your nose. These people operate places where people gamble money. Some of them may be trying to skin you. To skin means to cheat. The gambling places offer?skin games?where you have almost no chance of winning. In such places you must be careful, or you will be skinned out of all your money. Some people may say you are too careful with your money if you refuse to gamble. They may call you a skinflint. But that is not fair. A skinflint is very different. A skinflint is a person who tries to get everything out of you, but refuses to give you anything in return.?Flint?is a very hard stone. It is impossible to take any skin off the
