It is a high-level depiction of the process improvement stages. Organizations incur costs (investments and expenses) as they strive to improve the operation, resulting in improved process capability and organizational maturity. The results of this improvement (benefits) can appear as better performance in cost, schedule, productivity, quality, customer satisfaction, or others. Note that each process area begins with a Purpose Statement followed by some Introductory Notes and an elaboration of process areas related to the one you’re looking at. Note that the introductory notes are particularly helpful in conveying the intent of the process area. Note that each process area is structured by Specific Goals and Generic Goals. Underneath the goals are practices in each area. For the specific practices, typical work products or outputs of the practices are identified, as well as subpractices that provide a deeper understanding of the intent of the practices they relate to.
