FoodandDrinkofBritish(英国饮食)概要1

Food Drink;;Meals Of The Day;;Brunch, which replaces breakfast and lunch, typically on weekends when you have not had to get up early, or have already been out for a swim or a jog.;A traditional English Sunday lunch typically has just two courses: the “main” course—usually meat or poultry, normally roast or perhaps slowly cooked in a casserole(平底锅)。The second course may be called “pudding,” ”sweet,” or “dessert,” and is often some kind of pastry(烘烤糕点)in the form of a tart or pie, filled with fruit.;The Victorians institute the custom of “tea,” taken in the mid-to-late afternoon, which was tea to drink, plus a generous array of bread and butter, sandwiches, cakes, and tarts.; During the week, supper may consist of a cooked dish, such as lamb chops, cottage pie, these days, pasta, followed by cheese and fruit. The word “dinner” usually describes a more formal evening meal. It will usually be preceded by an alcoholic drink —spirits or wines—and there will be wine with the meal.;Invitations to a meal in someone’s house, even “dinner,” will usually mean a relaxed, lighthearted occasions. People will wear more casual and comfortable clothes. It’s usual to take a gift, such as flowers, a box of chocolates, or wine. It is also polite to send a note of thanks after an invitation. Some people prefer to telephone the following day.
