A sea is a large body of salt water that is surrounded in whole or in part by land. More broadly, the sea is the interconnected system of the Earth‘s salty, oceanic waters—considered as one global ocean or as several principal oceanic divisions. The sea moderates the Earth’s climate and has important roles in the water cycle, carbon cycle, and nitrogen cycle(氮循环). 海洋是地球上最广阔的水体的总称，海洋的中心部分称作洋，边缘部分称作海，彼此沟通组成统一的水体。 Oceanic distribution 地球表面被各大陆地分隔为彼此相通的广大水域称为海洋，其总面积约为3.6亿平方公里，约占地球表面积的71%，海洋中含有十三亿五千多万立方千米的水，约占地球上总水量的97%，而可用于人类饮用只占2%。地球四个主要的大洋为太平洋、大西洋、印度洋、北冰洋，大部分以陆地和海底地形线为界。目前为止，人类已探索的海底只有5%，还有95%大海的海底是未知的。 Seabed Structure Most of the oceans have a common structure, created by common physical phenomena, mainly from tectonic movement(地壳运动 ,板块移动), and sediment (沉积物)from various sources. The structure of the oceans, starting with the continents, begins usually with a continental shelf(大陆架), continues to the continental slope(大陆坡) – which is a steep descent into the ocean, until reaching the abyssal plain (深海平原)– a topographic plain, the beginning of the seabed, and its main area. The border between the continental slope and the abyssal plain usually has a more gradual descent, and is called the continental rise(海脊), which is caused by sediment cascading down the continental slope. Marine Life The oceans are home to a diverse collection of life forms that use it as a habitat. Since sunlight illuminates only the upper layers, the major part of the ocean exists in permanent darkness. As the different depth and temperature zones each provide habitat for a unique set of species, the marine environment as a whole encompasses an immense diversity of life. Oceans (French: Océans) Oceans is a French-American nature documentary film directed, produced, co-written, and narrated by Jacques Perrin, with Jacques Cluzaud as co-director, it is released in 2009. The film explores the marine species of Earths five oceans and reflects on the negative aspects of human activity on the environm
