Comparison and Contrast Comparison and contrast The method of comparison and contrast is often used in writing. By comparison we liken one thing to another by pointing out their similarities while in contrast we emphasize the differences between the two. Comparison is usually used between things that are more different than similar, and contrast is good for showing difference between things that are similar for the most part. e.g. middle school and college * Both middle school and college are places where people receive education, but they differ a lot from each other in purpose, organization, curriculum and ways of instruction.
