Working with Other Members of Staff Good relations with the other members of the secretarial staff are also crucial in creating a happy and trouble-free environment. As a secretary, much of your communications is with other secretaries, e. g. you may have to cancel or change an appointment or request urgent information or documents and there is no doubt that cordial and friendly relationships contribute to the successful outcome of such contacts. You will find the following suggestions very useful if you try to construct good relationship with other office members. 稵reat others with respect. Respect is the core of any good relationship. iWe show respect by listening to the other person and trying to understand how they view things. Quickly forming judgments based on prejudice is the complete opposite of respect. You can respect people (even if you find their behavior difficult to understand) by acknowledging that they are doing the best they can when their circumstances and history are taken into account. 稟ccept differences. You will come in contact with many different people in an office. lTheir backgrounds and interests may be quite different from yours. You may not understand many of these people at first. And, because you do not understand them, you may dislike or disapprove of them. As a successful secretary, you need to accept other employees without judging them. You should recognize and respect people who are different from you. If you sincerely listen to others, you will learn more about them and avoid conflicts that result from a lack of understanding. 稡e willing to cooperate You should have a cooperative attitude in working with other employees in the office since few jobs ar e performed in isolation and cooperation is necessary in order to attain company goals.
