This work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution International License (CC BY). /licenses/by/4.0/ Abstract Objective: To summarize the principle of herbs used in the treatment of gouty arthritis in recent years, which can provide reference for the clinical safety of medication. Methods: For the different clinical courses of gouty arthritis, this review focuses on the progress of treatment based on syn- drome differentiation of Chinese medicine, the treatment of Chinese patent medicine, combined TCM internal and external treatment, treatment with combination of Chinese medicine and West- ern medicine and the acupuncture treatment of gouty arthritis. Results: Cortex Phellodendri, Rhi- zoma Atractylodis, Radix Cyathulae, Semen Coicis, Rhizoma Smilacis Glabrae, Ramulus Cinnamomi and Radix Angelicae Sinensis are the most frequently used herbs in the treatment of gouty arthri- tis. It has the role of clearing heat and promoting diuresis, benefiting qi and activating blood cir- culation and dispersing swelling and relieving pain. Conclusion: Chinese dialectics has wide de- velopment prospects in prevention and treatment of gouty arthritis. Keywords Tr
