新世纪美国剧坛又一强有力的声音 ——评亚裔戏剧家谢耀及其两部戏剧 陈爱敏 内容摘要：谢耀是新世纪美国剧坛十分活跃且颇具影响力的亚裔剧作家兼导演。本文在对 其进行简要评述的基础上，着重讨论了他的两部同志剧《瓷》和《他们自己的语言》。笔 者认为，剧作通过讨论性、暴力、同性恋等话题，揭示了隐藏着的性别、种族、身份、阶 级等极其复杂的政治问题；通过讨论同性恋和艾滋病特殊群体的语言和生存状态，揭示了 语言、话语、权力与这些特殊群体间的关系；通过书写边缘，再现“异质”，提醒人们关 注这些弱势群体，倡导构建多元、杂糅、差异共存的多彩世界。 关键词：谢耀 同志剧 差异政治 作者简介：陈爱敏，南京师范大学外国语学院教授，博士生导师。主要研究方向：英美文 学、世纪之交美国戏剧。本文为教育部人文社会科学研究一般项目“世纪之交美国戏剧中 的身份主题研究”【项目批号：10YJA752003】和“江苏高校优势学科建设工程资助项目” 的阶段性研究成果。 Title: Another Powerful Voice on the New Millennium American Stage: A Study of Asian American Playwright Chay Yew and His Two Plays Abstract: Chay Yew is considered one of the most influential Asian American playwrights on the new millennium American stage. After a brief critical review of the playwright and his works, the paper then focuses on the study of his two plays: Porcelain and A Language of Their Own. With a detailed analysis of the text, the present author points out that through a discussion of such topics as sex, violence and gay, the two plays actually intend to reveal the complex political issues behind, like gender, ethnicity, identity and class; through an exploration of language and living conditions of the gay and aids groups, the playwright wants to expose the relationship between the language, discourse and power; and by means of writing and representing lives of the marginalized, Chay Yew calls on the public to pay more attention to those underprivileged, and advocates the construction of a colorful hybrid world where people of different race, gender and belief can live harmoniously together.
