惠特曼（Whitman） Walter Whitman (Walt Whitman) (1819~1892) American poet. Born in Long Island, a small coastal village. My father was a local farmer. When Whitman was 5 years old, the family moved to Broolyn, where his father worked as a carpenter and built the house. Whitman started elementary school there. Poor in life, Whitman read only 5 years of primary school. He worked as a messenger, learned typesetting, and later when the rural teachers and editors.
