Sichuan Institute of Geological Engineering Investigation，Chengdu，Sichuan 610059，China) Abstract ：According to the physico-mechanical parameters of the Tiantai Village landslide，the physical simulation was preformed. The deformation and failure evolution of the translational landslide ，which is caused by the cooperation of the hydrostatic pressure and the uplift pressure，are reconstructed. The clear relationship between the critical water head and the dip angle of the sliding plane is revealed by the results ：the larger the dip angle of the slide plane is ，the smaller the critical head would be under the same physico-mechanical parameters of rock and soil in the landslide，and vice versa.
