Exercises Serie II 1°) A Ta wire (bcc; Tmelt = 2996°C) has been drawn at 1000°C to a diameter of 5mm. The yield stress of that wire at 1000°C is 150 MPa. The wire is further reduced in one pass from 5 mm to 4 mm diameter at a constant temperature of 1000°C. The drawing force is 1800 N. The semi-die angle is ??=10°and the friction coefficient is μ = 0.05. ? should not exceed 1. a) Calculate the average flow stress during the last wire drawing pass (5 mm to 4 mm). b) Is this wire drawing pass realistic and “sound”? Would you suggest any changes of the drawing parameters? c) Suppose that you have to give an additional reduction from 4 mm to 3 mm and that the capacity of your drawing machine is limited to 2100 N. Which semi-die angle should you use? 2°) A wire with diameter 5mm is warm-drawn with a force of 765 Newton. The incoming speed of the wire is vin = 8m/s and the outgoing speed is vout.= 12.5 m/s. Each point of the wire stays during 0.144 seconds in the die. The ?-factor is 0.784 and the constitutive equation of this material is ? =50(?°)0.42. Assume that the usual formula’s for wire drawing are still applicable during warm wire drawing. Determine the (half) die angle ? and the friction co?ffici?nt μ. 3°) A metal plate with dimensions 1m x 1m x 0.04m is cold rolled with a true strain of ? =0.5. The constitutive equation of this material is: ? =100 + 150?0.3. The rolling cylinder has a radius of 0.5m and the rolling mill can exert a maximal force of 30 MN. Calculate the minimal friction coefficient that is needed to carry out this rolling pass. Is it possible to do a second rolling pass under the same conditions (same rolling cylinders and the same friction coefficient as in the first pass)? Would this second rolling pass also be possible when the sheet is turned over 90° after the first pass (cross rolling)? 4°) An ingot of an Aluminium alloy is 1m wide and 50mm thick. It must be hot rolled in one pass to a thickness of 40mm. According to the pseudo-binary
