These CIOs are increasing their influence on the business agenda by getting the fundamentals right while driving to capitalize on opportunities to create new value. Achieving the proper alignment requires consideration of the asset types driving value and changes occurring within the firm or industry. Primary issues, opportunities, and IT strategies to be evaluated may vary based on a company’s positioning with respect to these factors. One high potential opportunity for “Efficient, Predictable Operators” is to execute a strategy that repositions IT to effectively deliver capabilities and services at a reduced cost. Target overall cost-reduction in IT spending Focus new capabilities on delivering the highest business value Execute quick hit IT cost-reduction opportunities Well positioned to pursue further IT effectiveness and efficiency opportunities Have a roadmap for success in place to guide investment decisions “Information Optimizers” should evaluate opportunities to adopt next generation technologies to enhance efficiencies and gain competitive advantages. For “New Market Developers”, significant value can likely be realized by executing a strategy that repositions IT to rapidly deliver new business capabilities.
