University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100049, China) Abstract: The improved STIRPAT model: a combination of the original STIRPAT model and the Principal Component Analysis is applied to analyze the influential factors of the ecological footprint of Dingxi City from 1990 to 2011. It can effectively solve the collinearity diagnostics when apply the original STIRPAT model. There is a tendency towards slow rising of the ecological footprint of Dingxi City during the period 1990-2011, meanwhile the pressure that human activities put on Dingxi City increased. The economic development factor affects the ecological footprint and the biological footprint positively, while it affects the ecological footprint of energy negatively.
