Observation of Estrous Cycle and Choice of Optimal
Superovulation Time in Mice

Abstract: The various type of vaginal epithelial cells w ere observed at different estrous cycles in ICR mice
by the method of vaginal paint , and characteristics of the vagina w ere noted1 Based on the characteristics
of external genitalia, the experiment animals w ere divided into four test groups, proestrus group( group
1) , estrous group( group 2) , metestrus group( group 3) and dioestrus group( group 4)1 After superovula-
tion treatment, the effect of treatment in the test groups w ere compared w ith that of in control groups( the
mice w hich estrous cycles w ere not observed)1 T he result show ed that the dioestrus mice w hich vaginal or-
ifice w ere close and w et, and the proestrus mice w hich external genitalia w ere slightly sw ell and pink, va-
ginal orifice w ere patulous and w ith a mass of serous liquid , w ere better than control groups and other
groups in the success ratio of superovulation treatment and the average number of available embryos in
each mouse1
