Its new national Sales Manager Nigel Fraser, has been told to increase turnover by at least 10% and to create a high –performing sales team, but failed. Last year’s sales were over 20% below target. As a result of the team ‘s inefficiency and low morale. Questions _Team communication Question 1: Should Nigel approach team members individually? What should he say? Yes. Different words to different people. Generally, first, he should show it is his pleasure to be a member of the team and let the members know what the team goals are. Second, he can give more encouragement and compliment. Third, he can ask the suggestions and comments about how to built the team and achieve the goal. Questions-Team Roles Question 2: Should he remove one of the team? If so, Who? No. A team needs people of many kinds. Managers should have the basic quality to know the human and make good use. Manager should respect for difference and complementarities. For a given work, any single person can’t complete the job well - no one can meet all the requirements. But a team of individuals can do it perfect. Because it is not a simple list of combination of a single person, but the role of the team structure on which the team achieved a complementary. Five different types of people in a team Questions-Team leadership Question 3:Should you replace Nigel with an existing team member? No. Ligel fit to be a manager, and other members fit to be team players but not a leader. A manager should have the key leadership capabilities, such as the establishment of direction, unity of thinking, communication, relationship building, ethics, negotiation and so on.
