According to the understanding of translation obstacle problem, citing some examples of English Chinese Chinese English translation, and makes a comparative study from the following three aspects: 11 context and meaning; the 21 Western way of thinking and language differences; 31 cultural differences and translation. The author thinks that only the establishment of three levels on the understanding in order to ensure that the expressions of the target is faithful to the original and meet the target. This paper analyzes the causes of understanding errors in translation. Since there exist vast differences between English and Chinese, understanding errors in translation happen quite often from the following three aspects context and choice of: language the meaning of words differences in ways of modes 2; of thinking and expression between English and Chinese cultural difference and translation.; Examples from Chinese- English or English-Chinese are included and discussed. The discussion leads to the conclusion that only with accurate and thorough understanding can we expect our translation to be faithful and idiomatic.
