China College of Resources and Environment, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, Fuzhou 350002, China) Abstract: The pot and field experiments were conducted to analyze the effects of different water-soluble chlorine contents and different chlorine fertilizer rates on the growth of tobacco plant, dry matter accumulation, economic properties and smoking quality. The results showed that: It was suitable when the water-soluble chlorine content was between 25 and 35 mg/kg. It was potential deficient when the content was between 15 and 25 mg/kg. It was deficient when the content was below 15 mg/kg. It was rich when the content was above 35 mg/kg. It was severe excessive and would retard flue-cured tobacco growth when the content was above 330 mg/kg. It was suitable when the chlorine content of tobacco leaf was between 0.46% and 0.66%. The quality of tobacco leaf would be influenced seriously when the content was above 0.99%. Keywords: flue-cured tobacco; chlorine; deficient index; quality
