One is Lao he w ho w as called the genial elder and the common people w riter; the other is Qian Zhongshu, w hose light shining in all directions and w ho brimmed w ith talent in 40s inter- mediate stages. Lao hes and Qian Zhongshus humorous satire arts represented separately the highest level in 30s and the 40s China in 20th century. This paper analyzes the characteristics of the humorous satire art in the literary w ork of Lao he and Qian Zhongshu, and taking it as a foundation, emphatically analyzes its origin. Taking as foundation by pointing out the different styles of humorous satire art in their w ork, the paper respectively analyzes the superiority, the insufficiency and the limitation in their w orks. A ll these have certain practical significance for enriching and deepening now humorous satire lit- erary arts and for correcting certain undesirable tendencies.
