Analysis on proficiency test for detecting total mercury element in cream

ABSTRACT: Objective To analyze the capability of Chinese food inspection laboratories for detecting
heavy metal mercury element in cosmetics (cream). Methods Certification and Administration of the
People’s Republic of China (CNCA) organized this proficiency tests (PT) for detecting mercury in cosmetic.
About 127 laboratories from 31 provinces/cities/municipals took part in the PT. In this study, the implementa-
tion process of the PT was described, including project design, sample preparation and test, the statistical re-
sults and technical analysis. Results According to double testing, there were 94.5% laboratories showing sa-
tisfactory results. Conclusion Most laboratories taking part in the PT had good competence in analyzing
heavy metal element mercury in cosmetics.
