Based on the strong ground motion network, the theoretical concept of tsunam iw arn ing tmi e is given. Under the spherical coord inate, the tsunam i propagation model is built to smi ulate the transoceanictsunam i travel tmi e by finite differencemethod. Them athematical techn iques and the details of the computations for the tsunam i traveltmi e charts of the Ch inese coast are described for the scenario tsunam igenic earthquakes and the results show the Shanghai econom ic zone has the highest tsunam i hazard comparedw ith other China coastal areas. Them ethod suggested in th ispaper can be ap plied in the Ch ina tsunam iw arn ing system.
