Solar sim ulation technology

Abs tract: Th is paper introduces the developm ent of solar smi ulation technology, gives design specifications of
solar smi ulators, and then d iscusses the design and mi provem ent of optical systems of solar smi ulators in
detai.l Several design methods of the condenser system are proposed, especially, a compound high-order
aspheric surface condenser system and a non-coaxial ellipsoidalm irror are presented to raise the concentration
efficiency of condensers and mi prove the irrad iance distribution of the second focal plane. As the design of
optical integrators is based on the Gaussian optical theory and its optmi ization is gu ided by the aberration
theory, it presents an effective emp irical formu la for optmi um design of optical integrators. Th is paper also
briefly analyzes the design of collmi ating systems and the transm ittances of filters. F inally, the current prob-
lem s existed in the process of development are summ arized and several mi proved ideas are put forw ard.
