Regional Activities. Nations and consortia of nations have established THORPEX Regional Committees (RCs) that define regional priorities for participation in THORPEX within the framework of the THORPEX International Science and Implementation Plans. These THORPEX Regional Committees develop regional activities within the framework of the international plans. They facilitate provision of funding, logistical and other support, planning, coordination and implementation of THORPEX activities conducted by the region with respect to the THORPEX International Research Implementation Plan. 1 African Regional Committee (AfRC) 1.1 Science and Implementation Plans production and Dissemination THORPEX-Africa was launched at the THORPEX side event held during the AR1-XIV session in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) early 2007. From the draft plan provided, two task teams were formed, i) to rewrite the Science Plan and ii) work out the structure of the regional committee respectively. After having worked electronically, the task team 1 got together in Dakar in September 2007 for a three-day meeting to rewrite the Science Plan, outline the Implementation Plan and prepare the terms of reference of the following planning meeting. A planning meeting was held at the University of Karlsruhe in November 2007 jointly with the 2nd AMMA conference and gathered the African and Intentional science communities to present to the African community and international community the THORPEX-Africa Science Plan and the outline of the Implementation Plan in order to get their feedback and improve the document.
