METHODS: Following 1:1 matched pairing principle, 28 AD patients and 28 normal controls were enrolled in the study. The serum IL1β and IL6 levels were determined by enzymelinked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). RESULTS: The content of serum IL1β in the cases of AD (24 ± 13 ng / L was higher than that in the normal controls (NC) (7 + -5 ng / L and there was significant difference between the two groups (P lt;0.01but there was no significant difference in the content of IL6 between the two groups (Pgt; 0.05. There was no significant difference in serum contents of IL1β, IL6 between patients with different degree of AD (Pgt; 0.05. CONCLUSION: The content of serum IL1β in AD cases is higher than that in NC, which may correlate with the inflammation in brains of AD cases. The relationship between peripheral IL6 level and the inflammatory process in brains of AD cases needs further study.
