In 2012, this discipline was ranked as the fourth nationally according to the official evaluation by the Chinese Ministry of Education and as one of the Key Disciplines of Shanghai (Category B). In addition, Shanghai University has been one of the first five Chinese universities to be qualified to offer doctoral degree in film studies. In the last 5 years, this discipline has witnessed the obtaining of more than 20 provincial/ministerial-level or above research projects, the publication of more than 100 papers on domestic CSSCI journals and 5 papers on international SSCI、AHCI and EI journals, and the publication of dozens of academic books with such themes as frontier theories of film and TV studies and Shanghai cinema studies. In addition, this discipline has also hosted more than 20 international and domestic academic conferences, establishing itself as one of the top platforms for international academic exchanges in the film studies arena. This discipline has formed long-term academic relations with similar disciplines at dozens of overseas universities.
