The strategies of immunotherapy include enhancing cellular and molecular anti-tumor immune responses, such as boosting the activations of dendritic cells and cytotoxic T cells, and reducing immunosuppression in the tumor microenvironment, for instance, inhibiting the function of regulatory T cells and myeloid derived suppressor cells. To date, passive immunotherapy, in the form of monoclonal antibodies, has significantly improved the survival of patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER-2)- positive breast cancer.
