Ch ina AbstractA new kind of three-dim ensio nal photonic cry stal, called as co mbined three- dimensional photonic cry stal, is presented and show n to be practical through theoretical analy ses. T he combined three-dimensional photonic crystal is an enclosed solid str uc- ture made of several pieces of one-dim ensio nal photo nic crystals. It is found out that , under present technology, there ex ists no diff iculty in the f abrication of the proposed co mbined thr ee-dimensional photonic cry stals w or king in short wav elengths, including tho se in the visible.
