( ) 外语界 2001 年第 5 期 总第 85 期 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　 背诵课文在英语学习中的作用 1 2 □丁言仁 　　戚 　焱 提要 : 本文采用测试 、回顾 、周记的方法 ,探讨背诵课文在英语专业学生第二语言习得过程中的作用 。结果发 ) ) 现 :1 通过背诵课文 ,学生可以掌握更多的短语知识 ;2 学生在写作过程中经常使用固定短语 ,使文笔流畅 ,写 作速度加快 ;3) 背诵课文对提高学生的口语和写作能力大有裨益 。以上结果再次证实了语言在语法和短语层 次上运作的双重性观点 ,对我国外语教学和学习有一定启示 :除了强调语法知识 ,熟读和背诵课文在英语教与 学中占着举足轻重的地位 。 关键词 : 背诵课文 ;短语 ;英语学习 Abstract : Learning text by heart is extensively practiced in China , but little research has been conducted on this tra ditional literacy practice. This research investigated the role of this practice in second language acquisition by examin ing the test performance , retrospective recalls and journal reports by a group of university English majors. It found that the practice of text memorization facilitates the learning of language chunks and that using chunks enables learn ers to keep pack with idea development during the composing process. It also found that students hold conscious be liefs of memorizing texts as effective in helping them improve their speech and writing. The results support a view of language as operating both on grammar and on chunks , and this dualnature view implies that in addition to learning grammar , the practice of memorizing chunks has its place in the second language classroom.
