Blended space theory suggests that conceptual blending play a fundamental role in the meaning construction of natural language. The meaning construction and reasoning mechanism of metaphors can also be interpreted within the framework of blended space theory. However, its explanatory scope of is limited. Both similarity and dissimilarity between the two input spaces should be taken into consideration in the interpretative process due to the flexibility of the theory. Context and the speaker’s/writer’s intention are very essential in the understanding and interpretation of metaphors.
