Lead in:
Very good. I know everyone has your own words to say to your parents. I wish you could talk with your parents frequently. Problems could happen when families do not discuss how they feel. This class we are going to learn a play about the big fight an American family had. Now I’ll play the tape for you to listen to. After listening, please answer the following three questions:
1、Who are the main characters in the play? (Mom, Dad, Eric and Daniel.)
2、Why was Dad very angry with Daniel? (The house is so dirty.)
3、What happened to their dog, Spot? (Spot was ill.)
Reading:
1、Now I’ll give you several minutes to read the text carefully, then finish exercises C1 and C2 on p. 24.
Language Focus:
1、than expected:比预料。
注意:这是一个省略了主语和助动词be的省略句,可把它补充成:than they were expected
英语中,在上下文意思明确的情况下,在以下两种条件下: 1)从句的主语和主句的主语相同,2)从句的主语是 it, 动词是 be 动词,则可以把状语从句的主语、助动词或be动词省略,只保留动词的分词形式或形容词。
e.g. I will help him if (I am) asked to.
She is more friendly than (she was) thought of.
We will go to visit the Great Wall if (it is) necessary.
The students laughed a lot while (they were) seeing the film.
2、Eric runs in after it, followed by a dog, walking very slowly.
句中的followed…和walking…是分词短语,作状语,修饰谓语动词run。
英语中,用分词短语作状语,要分析主句的主语与分词动作的关系,如果是主动关系,则用现在分词,如果是被动关系,则用过去分词。
e.g. The old woman sat in the chair, saying sth. to herself. (old woman 与say是主动关系)
Broken yesterday, the window needs repairing.
The actress walked into the hall, smiling sweetly, followed by many fans.
3、suppose:以为、猜想
1) suppose + that 从句
e.g. I suppose that we will have a test soon.
— Do you think he will come?
— Yes, I suppose so. / No, I suppose not.
2) suppose sb. (to be) + n. / adj. 以为某人是……
e.g. All of his friends supposed her (to be) his wife.
I supposed him to be not yet twenty.
3) be supposed to be / do:理应、应当……
e.g. We are supposed to be at school at seven every morning.
