教学设计3
Teaching aims
1. To practise listening strategies for understanding cultural references.
2. To practise making tentative and stronger suggestions.
3. To practise the pronunciation of making suggestions.
4. To practise using phrasal verbs with up.
Teaching important difficult points
1. Listening: a lecture and a dialogue and take notes.
2. To practice justifying arguments.
3. To practise using the vocabulary of some endangered animals.
Teaching procedures
Step 1 Warm-up
T: Look at the pictures and imagine where these people live, what kind of society it is and how the people’s life is.
S: It is the ideal society of Utopia.
T: Can you find some words to describe the society and the people’s life there?
S: Beautiful, peaceful, well, equal, harmonious, relaxed, healthy, happy…
Step 2 Learn the new words
Utopia, virtue, framework, feast, surplus, elect, merciful, sow, roundabout, collision, weed, fountain, paddle, wag, packet, grocer, rot, league, ministry…
Step 3 Listening
1. Before you start
a) Exercise 1: Look at the picture of the ideal society of Utopia. Guess the answers to some of these questions.
1) Are there any differences between rich and poor people?
2) What leisure activities are there?
3) How fair is the society?
4) What punishments are there?
b) Then go through the pictures and check answers.
2. Listen to learn
a) Ask students to look at the listening strategies and review them together.
1) When listening to English you will often hear cultural references (e.g. to people, places, objects, TV programs, measurements) which you are not familiar with.
2) Use the context of the conversation to try to guess what they refer to.
b) Listen to the story again and answer the questions. Let students write some notes
1) What is Utopia like? Give some examples.
It is the most beautiful country in the world. For example, all the towns are the same and all the buildings are laid out in an ordered way.
2) How do the people in Utopi
