Unit nine Lesson one Some theories about play Questions about the text Why do you play? Why do human play? Do all animals play? Why do they play? Do animals play during all-time of their lives? Why do human sing, dance, sculpture, and so on? What influences your growing-up mostly, heredity, environment, or …? Topic sentences 1.Play seems to be served as a function for fun and pleasure. However, it is often pursued with deep concentration. 2. People play throughout their lifetimes. During the childhoods, from infants to teenagers , they all enjoy play every much. 3. In adult life, play becomes a release from work and every day tensions. 4. Play is activity, not idleness, though it is not limited to any special form of activity. 5. Play has probably always been a part of human life. 6. Many parents and other people have speculated about the meaning and value of play. But play is a self-directed activity. 7. Some people , especially those have study animal behavior, contend that play constitute a mechanism of growth. This view is known as the rehearsal theory. 8. Another theory suggests that play results from biological inheritances. This view is known as the recapitulation theory. 9. Three others—the surplus energy, recreation, and catharsis theories seem closely allied. 10.the instinct theory holds that play is provided by nature to serve the world as a method of education. 11. Many people view the psychoanalytic theory as the most important of all. 13.Perhaps the best known of all play theories is the Piaget theory. 14. Piaget linked play with the growth of intelligence. 15. A person’s intellectual development results from the continuous, active interplay between assimilation and accommodation. 16. Symbolic or make-believe play characterize the representation intelligence period in children (from about 2 to 7 years of age) 17. Make-believe play gradually becomes more elaborate.
