In t is paper, c emical analysis, Xray diffraction and atomic force microscopy w ere employed to examine t e c aracteristics of tourmaline produced in east Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and batc experiments w ere conducted to study its regulation effects on seawater pH value. T e factors affecting t e regulation, suc as t e dosage of tourmaline and t e salinit y and initial pH value of seaw ater,were also studied. T e results s ow ed t at tourmaline could regulate t e seawater pH value from its initial 3 and 10 to 7. 1 and 8. 9, respectively , and t e regulation effect was greater in t e seawater wit lower salinity, e. g . , after 120 minutes treatment, t e initial pH value ( 5. 0) of t e seaw ater w it a salinity of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 35 w as increased by 3. 24, 3. 16, 3.06, 2. 99 and 2. 85 unit, respectively. Tourmaline ad little effect on seawater conductivity . T is study w ould provide an experimental base for t e application of tourmaline in aquaculture.
