BEC主题教学 Staff Appraisals What is an Appraisal? Appraisal is defined as “A two way discussion of past and present experiences and achievements at work and using this as the basis for agreeing future development to the benefit of the organisation and the employee”. The aim of Appraisal is to facilitate development, motivate and improve performance. The purposes of an appraisal are: 1. To review the accuracy and validity of the job description and if necessary to amend it. (Review past performance and give feedback) 2. To assess how well the officer is undertaking the job description and to agree any remedial actions necessary. 3. To evaluate the efficacy of communication between the officer and line manager, the efficacy of support from the organisation and to agree any remedial actions necessary. 4. To identify the aspirations that the officer has for the post. (Define expectations, directions and objectives to improve performance) Purposes of Staff Appraisal 5. To agree targets and timetable for achievement and review. 6. Assess and support training & development needs (learning, job/career change). 7. Discuss and encourage potential/promotability. 8. Communicate review and assessment of additional rewards. 9. Make retention decisions (probationary period) Appraisers – Roles and Responsibilities Appraiser’s role within the Appraisal Process. ? Recognise achievements and celebrate successes ? Strengthen relationships and improve team working ? Help individuals to focus on their priorities for the coming year ? Identify training and development needs ? Get useful feedback from the Appraisee Appraisee – Roles and Responsibilities Your role within the Appraisal Process ? To prepare properly for the Appraisal ? To return the Appraisal preparation form to the Appraiser in good time ? To be open and honest, but constructive during the discussion ? Be familiar with the Appraisal Process and Documentation The Appraisal is a DISCUSSION between two individuals.
