They occur not only in an orogenic belt but al so in adj acent t ectonic unit s , and locally can int rude op hiolit es belt s. Compo sitionally , po stcolli sional granitoids range f rom medium to highpot a ssium calcalkaline to sho shonit e , but t end to be dominat ed by t he calcalkaline series. They can be subdivided into I , S , and At yp es in accor dance wit h t he M ISA classification . Some oro genic belt s are dominat ed by It yp e granitoids , while ot her s are charact erized by widesp read develop ment of St yp e granit es. Alkaline At yp e granit es , however , do not occur in all orogenic belt . It i s ext remely difficult to rec o gnize t he t ectonic settings for t hese granitoids by simply u sing t race element di scrimination diagram s in t he ab sence of sound geological con st raint s.
