Nanjing Tralfic Profession Technic Inslitule, Nanjing 210032 , China) Abstract: The research on the frost heave and thawing settlement of frozen soil is discussed , the current researches on mechanism for fre ezing heave , thawing settlement , numerical prediction models and preven- tions from freeze- th即 hann are summarized , the short唔es of current study on freez e- thaw action of frozen soil are dissertated , and the direction of the study for the future is expected . The author also puts fOIward that in the future the theoretical and experimental research on the ∞uple of water, he砚， force and dis- placement of freezing heave should be made , the more reasonable and resultful prediction models of freez e- thaw action should be founded , the software on predicting freez e- thaw effect
